MBPC Weighs in on New Revenue Update
“Montana Revenue Continues to Exceed Projections,” Helena Independent Record, February 18, 2012.
“Tara Veazey, executive director of Montana Budget and Policy Center, took note of the larger general fund ending-fund balance and revenue growth. During the 2011 session, she said, the governor’s office, numerous advocates, her group, and to a lesser extent, the Legislature’s own staff made ‘unheeded recommendations’ to increase revenue estimates to reflect more current data.
‘The additional revenue could have been used to prevent cuts to higher education, preventative health care and tobacco prevention programs, and could have been used to invest in our economy through the bonding bill and modest, long-overdue raises for teachers and other public servants doing work that matters across this state,’ Veazey said.”
